A "Happy Alternative" or "Personal Hell"?

We've all had our share of reality checks after entering a field that we've romanticized ever since we had knobby knees. But this New York Times article suggests that travel guide writers have it especially hard.

So the next time I get aggravated about producing a piece from a last-minute reporter, I'll just remind myself that at least I'm not getting molly-wopped in the mean streets of Venezuela.

Caracas, son.
